What is Kimbal Musk’s net worth as Elon’s father says he favors his brother

A multi-millionaire in his own right, Kimbal Musk is a chef, restaurateur, philanthropist and venture capitalist. He is also the younger brother of SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk.

The Musk family is in the news again and all eyes are on Kimbal Musk, thanks to a recent interview with family patriarch Errol that went viral.

The New York Post reports that on Monday, August 1, Errol Musk called the Kyle and Jackie O radio show on Australian radio station KIIS FM for a 20-minute chat. In the conversation, he talked about Elon’s success and suggested the 50-year-old billionaire businessman should lose weight.

“Your offspring are a genius,” presenter Jackie O asked the 79-year-old South African.

“He’s worth so much money and created so much that you can’t take that away from him. Are you proud?

“No. You know, we’re a family that’s been doing a lot of things for a long time, it’s not like we suddenly started doing something,” Errol replied. Errol then described his son, Kimbal, as his “pride and joy”.

Forbes estimates that Kimbal Musk is worth $700 million, although his older brother holds the title of the richest person in the world with a net worth of $271.2 billion.

This huge figure is largely due to Kimbal’s 0.04% stake in Tesla. Plus stock options worth approximately $170 million as of November 9, 2021.

According to Forbes, Kimbal also owns a $2 million stake in American fast food chain Chipotle. He likely owns shares in SpaceX, Elon Musk’s private spaceflight company, where he is also a board member.

Kimbal, 49, also owns The Kitchen Restaurant Group, a collection of restaurants located in Chicago, Colorado and Indianapolis. The chef’s passion for food inspired her nonprofit organization Big Green, founded in 2011. She has built “learning gardens” across the United States to educate children about where their food comes from. He is also a co-founder of Square Roots, an urban agriculture company.

The Musk brothers, one a tech juggernaut and the other an urban farmer, have a close relationship. Forbes writes that in 1995, Kimbal and Elon founded the software company Zip2. Later, Kimbal was an early investor in Elon’s next startup, X.com, which eventually became part of PayPal, according to CNBC.

Kimbal once described their differences as follows: “He’s kind of taking the world to a new frontier and mine is taking care of the frontier we have.”
